Reusing a Song (Analyze Once)
A song is analyzed once and reused instantly, like a parsed document, with no waiting on every project.
What it is
A song in Melodious is more than an audio file. It's a bundle: the audio, plus the analysis Melodious does of it (duration, tempo, sections) and the lyrics it extracts. Melodious analyzes that bundle once, the first time you use the song, and stores it on the song. Every time you reuse the song after that, it loads instantly. No more "Analyzing audio" on every new project.
Think of it like uploading a PDF to a chat tool: it's parsed once, and from then on it just carries its parsed form everywhere you use it.
How to reuse a song
- In the composer, type
@and pick a Music asset (your own upload, or one of the three free demo songs). - The song becomes the project's track immediately. The agent already has the analysis and lyrics in context, so it can go straight to building your storyboard.
There's nothing else to do. The first reference does the analysis once; every later reference skips it.
What changed
Before this, @mention-ing a saved song brought the audio file but not its analysis, so the agent would either say it had no analysis or quietly re-run "Analyzing audio" and "Extracting lyrics" again. Now the analysis travels with the song:
- First use analyzes the song once and saves the analysis onto it.
- Every later use loads the stored analysis, with no re-analysis and no analysis indicators in the chat.
Replacing a song
You can swap a project's song:
- No storyboard yet — the swap is silent. The new song just becomes the track.
- A storyboard already exists — swapping changes the scene timings, so Melodious asks whether to start fresh with the new song (keeping your vision and references) or cancel.
Common questions
Why did my old saved song still analyze the first time I reused it? Songs saved before this feature have no stored analysis yet, so the first reuse analyzes them once and backfills the bundle. Every reuse after that is instant.
Do the demo songs need analyzing? They analyze once on first use, like any song, then load instantly forever after.
Does reusing a song cost extra? Reusing a song doesn't re-run analysis, so there's no repeated analysis work on every project.
