Import a Suno Song to a Music Video (Assisted, Step by Step)

By The Melodious Team

The short answer

Open the + menu in the composer and choose Import from Suno. Download your song on Suno itself, as MP3 or WAV, then drop the file into the dialog. Tick the box confirming the song is yours and you have the rights, and optionally paste the song's style line from Suno so it lands in your description. Melodious never fetches anything from Suno or from a Suno link. The song then goes through the same upload and analysis as any other audio file.

How do you import a Suno song into Melodious?

You download the song on Suno, then add the file in Melodious. Melodious adds an Import from Suno entry to the composer's + menu, under Upload a song. It opens a dialog titled "Import from Suno" (marked Beta) that begins with a short note: download your song on Suno, then add the file here. Suno only allows downloads from Suno itself, so Melodious cannot fetch it from a link. For the full route from a Suno song to a finished video, see how to turn your Suno song into a music video; for what happens after the import, see how to make an AI music video.

The dialog has three parts:

  1. Your Suno link (optional). Paste suno.com/song/... or suno.com/s/... and an Open your song on Suno link appears. On Suno, open the song's menu, choose Download, then MP3 or WAV.
  2. Add the file you downloaded. Drop the MP3 or WAV on the box or choose it. Anything that is not audio is refused.
  3. Song style (optional). Paste the style line from Suno. It is added to your description, where you can edit it.

Then tick the rights box and press Import song.

Melodious has no paste-a-link import because of Suno's own Terms, which we read before building anything. As of 2026-10-04 (terms last revised August 10, 2026, effective September 3, 2026):

  • Obtaining a copy of an Output "by any means other than a download channel made available by Suno is prohibited", with recording and stream ripping given as examples.
  • Scraping and data mining of the service are prohibited, which covers reading lyrics or tags out of a song page.
  • For paid accounts, a song's commercial use depends on having a permitted Download. A copy fetched by a third party would not carry that.

That last point is the practical one. As we read these Terms, the download is the license event, so a file fetched on your behalf would be a file you may not use commercially, which is the opposite of what a music video tool should hand you. Suno also rations downloads (as of its September 2026 change, Pro accounts get 20 download credits a month and Premier 60), and a link import would let people skip that.

Suno does publish an oEmbed endpoint and an embed player for other sites, which give a title and a player but not the audio, lyrics or tags. Melodious does not use them in this flow. And Suno said in July 2026 that it was exploring a developer API for a curated group of partners, with no date, price or scope published. If that arrives, a link import may become possible. Until then, three steps is the version that stays within the rules. Free-plan accounts only get occasional trial downloads, which Suno says are not eligible for commercial use, so if you have no download left, you have no file to bring to Melodious. Check Suno's current Terms yourself; they change.

What does the style box change?

Suno songs come with a style description, and it answers questions the brief would otherwise ask: genre, mood, era, tempo. Paste it, and Melodious adds it to the composer's prompt as visible text. You can edit or delete it before you send. It is never applied behind your back.

Lyrics are a different story. Real Suno lyrics would help with timing and spelling invented words, but the dialog does not collect them, because a field that changed nothing would be decoration. Melodious still works from the audio.

What does the rights checkbox actually say?

"This is my song and I have the rights to use it. Songs made on Suno's free plan are for personal, non-commercial use."

Import song stays disabled until a file is added and the box is ticked. The box is not legal cover for you or for us: it is a prompt to check. Per Suno's help center, songs downloaded while you are on a paid plan carry commercial rights and songs made on the free plan are for personal use. For a fuller walk through of what each plan allows, read Suno's own help center and Terms, and do not treat any of this as legal advice.

What happens after you press Import song?

The file goes through the composer's ordinary upload. It is stored, analysed for tempo and sections, and limited exactly as an "Upload a song" file would be. Nothing about it is Suno-specific after that. If you already know the rest, the walkthrough in turn your Suno song into a music video applies from here: describe what you want to see, and the brief, concept and storyboard follow. The brief and the first storyboard are free, within the free-tier limits; payment starts at Render video.

Frequently asked questions

Can I paste a Suno link and have Melodious fetch the song?

No, and it is deliberate. Suno's Terms prohibit obtaining a song by any means other than a download channel Suno provides, and name recording and stream ripping. So Melodious does not fetch audio, lyrics or tags from Suno. A pasted link is used for one thing only: an Open your song on Suno shortcut, so the download is one tap away.

What file do I add?

The MP3 or WAV you downloaded from Suno. The dialog accepts audio files, including M4A, and rejects anything else with the message to download the MP3 or WAV from Suno.

What does the style box do?

Whatever you paste is added to your description in the composer, as visible text you can edit, so it reaches the brief the way typed words do. It is never applied silently. A line such as 'alt pop, dance-pop, 122 BPM' tells the brief the genre and feel before it asks.

What is the rights checkbox for?

It asks you to confirm that the song is yours and you have the rights to use it, and it reminds you that songs made on Suno's free plan are for personal, non-commercial use. Import song stays disabled until it is ticked and a file is added.

Are my Suno lyrics imported?

No. Lyrics are not collected in the dialog. Melodious works from the audio, and real Suno lyrics support is a separate piece of work that has not shipped.

Is there a faster way?

Not one that stays inside Suno's Terms. Suno said in July 2026 that it is exploring a developer API for partners, with no published date, price or scope, so a one-step import has to wait for that.
