Spotify Canvas maker: spec checker and loop trimmer
Drop in a clip and see whether Spotify will accept it as a Canvas, whether it loops cleanly, and crop it to vertical. Free, no account, nothing uploaded.

What this Canvas maker does and does not do
Search for a Spotify Canvas maker and most results are editors that want you to build the clip from scratch. This page does the narrower job that sits at the end of that process: it tells you whether the clip you made will pass, and it fixes the two things that go wrong most often, the wrong shape and the wrong length.
It does not generate footage. Melodious does not export a ready-made, seamless Canvas loop from a finished video, so we built the part we can do properly and left the rest honest. If you have a clip from a phone, a render, or a section of a music video, this tool gets it ready.
Everything runs on your device. The clip is never uploaded, which matters when it is unreleased footage for a track that has not come out yet.
The Spotify Canvas spec in one place
A Canvas is vertical, 9:16. It must be between 720 and 1080 pixels tall, so 720 by 1280 is fine and 1080 by 1920 is too tall. It must run three to eight seconds. The accepted formats are MP4 and JPG, and the clip plays silent, so any audio in the file is ignored at best.
Spotify's own guidance also asks you to leave your song title, artist name and logos out of the frame, because the app already shows them. Our checker cannot see inside the picture, so that one is yours to confirm. For the full arithmetic on sizes, read our guide to Spotify Canvas size and dimensions, and for the wider picture, what Canvas is and how it is used.
How to make a Canvas loop that does not jump
A loop is clean when the last frame leads naturally back into the first. Slow, textured motion forgives a lot: smoke, water, light moving across fabric, a slow push on a still image. A person walking across frame does not, because the walk visibly resets every cycle.
Use the start and length sliders to find a window where the picture ends close to where it began, then press the seam check. A difference under about five percent should loop without a visible jump. Between five and fifteen percent you will see a small hitch. Above that, move the window.
Remember that Canvas is not synced to the song. It restarts on its own cycle, so avoid anything that depends on a beat landing in time.
Where to get footage for a Canvas
If you do not have footage, an AI music video is one source. Melodious reads your song, plans a storyboard scene by scene, and generates a keyframe for each shot. The storyboard is free for a new account, so you can pick the most Canvas-friendly shot, a slow and abstract one, before you decide whether to render anything. Rendering takes a plan, from the pricing page.
You can also use a clip from a visualizer made with our free audio visualizer. It records a landscape frame, so the 9:16 crop keeps a narrow strip down the middle, which is why textured shots tend to work better than spectrum graphs here.
Frequently asked questions
What are the Spotify Canvas requirements?
A vertical 9:16 video between 720 and 1080 pixels tall, three to eight seconds long, as an MP4 or JPG, with no audio. Spotify also asks you to keep your title and artist name out of the frame. This tool checks the first four and tells you what to fix.
Is this a Spotify Canvas generator?
No, and we would rather say so than imply it. It does not create footage. It checks a clip you already have, shows whether the loop will jump when it restarts, and crops the clip to 9:16. Where the clip comes from is up to you.
Why does the loop seam check matter?
Canvas restarts the clip over and over behind your song. If the last frame is very different from the first, listeners see a hard cut every few seconds. The check compares those two frames and reports how different they are, so you can move the start point before you upload.
Why did my trimmed file come out as WebM?
The trimmer records the cropped frame in your browser, and Chrome and Firefox record WebM. Spotify takes MP4, so run the file through a converter such as HandBrake or FFmpeg before you upload it. Safari usually records MP4 directly.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read in your browser tab through a temporary local link. Nothing is sent to a server, and closing the tab discards it.
Why does saving take as long as the clip?
The browser records the video as it plays, so a six second loop takes six seconds. There is no way to speed that up from inside a web page.
Find the eight seconds worth looping
Melodious storyboards your whole song shot by shot, and a new account gets a free 30-second storyboard so you can see the shots before paying for anything. Pick the best moment, then trim it here.
